Mr Toby Hassall

I am from a family of teachers and both my mum and dad have had a huge influence on my ideas and philosophy. I have been married to my wife Nicola since 2007 and am lucky enough to have two wonderful children Joseph and Ffion.

I started working at Black Firs when the afterschool club was established and I fell in love with the school, its vision and values. I have been lucky enough to work across all areas in the school and currently work in Lower Key Stage 2. I believe in learning from first hand experiences and that every day offers new learning opportunities for children to develop and learn from each other.

One of my roles in school is mentoring students and NQT's. I love having the chance to work with new teachers and sharing my experiences. I work with the local CECP working closely with other schools in our local partnership as part of the School Direct programme with Staffordshire University. I also offer support and guidance to the newly qualified teachers in Congleton and currently facilitate their network meetings.

I am a teacher governor and this has given me the opportunity to work with parents and the community and be part of a team that is taking Black Firs forward. The role has really helped me realise how special our school is, and what we want the school to look like in the future. I have recently been reading some books by Jo Boaler and I am looking forward to sharing her ideas with my team this year.

I am looking forward to working with the governors, staff, parents and children on the next part of our adventure.
