Welcome to our school website...

Welcome to our school website. We hope you find it both informative and interactive as well as an accurate reflection of the values and ethos of our school, where every child is encouraged to develop their skills, interests and passions to ‘become your own superhero.’

Whether you are thinking of joining us as part of our Pre-School, as a new member of our Reception family or at a later point in your child’s school journey, I am sure that as you spend time looking at our website you will, like us, be excited about all of the opportunities our school has to offer.

Black Firs is a successful, vibrant primary school, a school where children come first. We have a highly motivated, resourceful and committed team of staff and governors who care about and nurture the needs of every child. Our pupils are taught the skills they need to become good leaders, respectful and engaged learners and be interested in the world around them, through sports, arts, science or our trips and residential visits such as our annual visit for KS2 to the Conway Centre in North Wales.

We want our children to be happy at school and for learning to be fun and challenging. We set high expectations and want to give our children every opportunity to become confident and independent learners. We work closely with parents to ensure this happens and recognise the importance of good communication between home and school.

We actively welcome new parents, parent helpers and all visitors to the school. We have lots of plans for the year ahead and will keep you up to date with events and news as they happen.

I hope you find the information on our website useful, and that it will help us to form the beginning of a successful partnership in your child's education. We are extremely proud of our school and would be delighted to welcome you as part of our extended family.

We look forward to meeting you soon!

Within our school site we are fortunate to have our own large Astro Turf area, two netball courts, a large playground and plenty of green areas in and around the school, including a woodland area where our pupils can visit for forest school and outdoor learning.

We have a wonderful, purpose-built Pre-School building where pupils are encouraged to play, explore and create both inside and outside and we have a purpose-built fenced play area for the children to play in. Staff from both Early Years and the main school meet to discuss and plan carefully for the transitionary process and there is a lot of sharing of ideas and planning in both the short and the long term. Continuity is encouraged and to help this we offer a weekly Toddler stay and play session to help your little one to get used to being in our building and to help you and your child to begin to build lasting relationships with our Early Years team.

We also have very good links with several of our local secondary schools, including our main feeder secondary school Congleton High School (CHS), which is also part of The Learning Partnership trust.

Our aim is to help the children to reach their full potential, to develop their social awareness and encourage each child to take part in our vast list of extra-curricular activities, including many opportunities to take part in various sporting clubs and fixtures with pupils from other schools in the Congleton area. Black Firs is proud to be part of the Congleton Education Partnership (CeCP) who organise an annual Town Sports Day every summer. We love creative and performing arts at Black Firs and pupils have the opportunity to also take part in music lessons, choir events, pantos and nativities and an annual Arts Week.

The school provides a breakfast and after school club as part of our extended day offer, which is open from 7.30 till the start of the school day and then till 6pm after school. It is our intention to educate the children for life, not only for their school days so our curriculum is filled with opportunities to read and we have a weekly drop in and read session on a Friday morning.
