The summer holidays are a wonderful time for Reception children to continue learning through play, exploration, and shared experiences. At this age, the most valuable learning happens naturally - through talking, playing, and spending time together.

Here are some ideas to help your child keep learning while making special memories:

Get Outside
Explore nature together - go on a bug hunt, collect leaves, build a den, or have a picnic in the park. Outdoor play helps develop physical skills, curiosity, and imagination.

Share Stories Every Day
Reading together is one of the best things you can do. Visit the library in town, re-read favourite books, or make up your own stories. Talk about the pictures, characters, and what might happen next.

Play Games
Board games, card games, and simple counting or memory games help build early maths and thinking skills. Even games like “I Spy” or “Simon Says” are great for listening and language development.

Get Creative
Draw, paint, build with blocks, or make crafts from recycled materials. Creative play supports fine motor skills and self-expression.

Sing and Rhyme
Sing nursery rhymes, clap along to rhythms, or make up silly songs. This helps with language, memory, and early reading skills.

Try Some Online Fun

Most importantly, enjoy this time together—talk, laugh, and make memories. Every moment is a chance to learn!
